This memorial shows the 'Dodendraad'. During World War I the Germans installed this wire on the border between Belgium and The Netherlands. This to prevent civilians from Belgium crossing the border to the neutral Netherlands.
The wire contained a barbed wire, followed by a wire with high tension on it followed by another barbed wire.
Several civilians got killed while trying to cross the wire.
