Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum or Fenway Court was unveiled by Isabella Stewart Gardner on New Year's eve of 1902. As a Boston tycoon of wealth, collecting art became a sport. She let this Italian style palace built to house her fast-growing collection of old masters.

She was very worried about copying the design. When she tested the acoustics of the music room, she brought in singers from the Perkins Institute for the Blind.

In 1990, the museum was big news again. On March 18, thieves disguised as police officers talked their way into the museum. They handcuffed the two on-duty security guards out of sight and then stole thirteen works of art, including The Concert of Johannes Vermeer and three works by Rembrandt van Rijn, including his only seascape, The Storm on the Sea of Galilee, and a small self-portrait print.
