Windmill De Zwaan

De Zwaan is a mill built in 1644 to replace the post mill that was blown over in 1643, which was already there in 1530. Some consider the mill a tower mill, but others do not consider it a tower mill, because the mill is narrower at the top and it was originally an outdoor porter. The mill is largely copied from the mill in Hazerswoude and stands on a 2.80 m high mound at Molenstraat 5-7 in Lienden. During the construction, the wood from the windblown post mill was used as much as possible. The hull of the mill is built slightly conical. The diameter is 6.30 m at the bottom and 5.80 m at the top. Originally, the roof was covered with reeds. De Zwaan is a flour mill and a ground sailer. The hind beard reads "1879 Van Harn". Since 1940, the forebeard has read: "IN STORM AND WIND, GOD IS MY FRIEND"The wooden roof, covered with roofing felt, is seasoned with the help of an English crosswork with 42 rollers. The mill is a so-called inner porter and is seasoned from the attic with both a wheelbarrow reel and a pout. Originally, the mill was an outside porter, which can still be seen on the cross track outside on the hull. The hood was then seasoned with only a tail and a tail roll that rolled along the mill hull.
