Strijthagen Castle

Source: Wandelengel

It was built in the 18th century on the site of an older castle. The walls of the main building consist of so-called layers of bacon, i.e. alternating layers of brick and natural stone (marl) that are relatively common in Limburg.

In the course of the twentieth century, Strijthagen Castle suffered a lot of mine damage. From 1952 onwards, the painter Aad de Haas lived with his family in the castle for many years.
