In 2001 Castrelo de Val council inaugurated this space located in the old emblematic “doctor’s house” as an initiative aim at recovering and placing value on ethnographic heritage elements in the territory. The Centre exhibition script centres on recovering the historical memory of the municipality via different topics organized around ethnography, nature, art and folklore. The Centre has 250 ethnographic utensils and pieces donated by the town inhabitants. Thematic panels, old objects recovered, garments and audiovisual means create a journey along which we discover the different traditional trades/occupations carried out in the territory linked to the economy and way of life of these lands, like carpentry or the unique essential manufacture of charcoal. We also discover the trades linked to fieldwork like meshing, harvesting or flax transformation process. The Centre also dedicates a space to the recovery of traditions, rites and notable festivities like the carnival or feast of the dancers, and ancestral dance related to rural pagan rites.
