VALUABLE AND BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE

The river mouth of the Grande river (22 km from its source in Zas) was a crossing point between hinterland and inland routes and therefore a traditional centre for trade. At present, maritime traffic with the commercial area of Ponte do Porto has all but disappeared.
The riverbank offers a complex and diverse landscape. Here are concentrated numerous elements of great natural heritage value.
The natural riches of the river, a major native trout habitat, attracted the early settlers to Ponte do Porto, where they built grinding mills and, on the other side, the Torres of Cereixo and the Romanic church, intermingled, all the way down to the river mouth in the Camariñas ria, with significant natural elements such as Xunqueira, the lands of Baiso de Dor, the island of Forno de Sapo or the Area Grande beach.
This wealth also attracts important wildlife species, particularly migratory birds, that stop and nest here. Look for herons, egrets...
