Passage du Gois is popular in the Tour de France. It was the start of the Tour de France in 2011. In 1999, the Passage du Gois was also part of the Tour de France. Due to the slippery road, a crash occurred and created a time difference of six minutes between the pack and those who had fallen. This made some favorites to lose all hope for winning the Tour. Alex Zülle was one of them. He became second in seven minutes behind Lance Armstrong. Also in 2005 the Tour passed here.
