In the village of Repanidi you can see pits carved out by people in the volcanic ashes (pyroclastic rocks). These pyroclasitic rocks have a very good isolating characteristic and works perfect to cool stuff in a hot climate. The pits were used to keep wine and food. You can still see them on the side of the road.
