According to the Khmer inscription in the eastern gopura, which is the main entrance and an ancient relic found here, the sanctuary can be dated to the 10-11th century AD. The eastern gopura has three doorways to the courtyard and is in the form of a cross. The initial sanctuary was constructed in the Baphuon style and dedicated to the God Shiva. From the carving of the lintels, it would seem that the buildings were constructed at different times and during the period of Udayadityavarman II.
