Gildenhuis van de Metselaars

This 16th century house of the masons has the Brabant-gothic style. The house was planned to be demolish in the years 80 but, luckily someone discovered that beyond the gable, there was a much older 16th century gable. It resulted in the complete restoration of the building. The local artist, sculptor and singer-song writer Walter De Buck was asked to create the wonderful dancing figures at the top of the building.

Below the dancers, you can see the devil and his wife, and below these, man and wife.

More controversial is the ‘modern’ extension of achitect Bontinck, who worked out a construction of mirrors which would reflect the old city in the modern building.
