A Hill! Garrowby 24m

Circular route contains the closest hill climb from Elvington. Garrowby Hill reaches 250m and gives spectacular views across the vale of York.

The route heads out through Allerthorpe Common, crossing the A1079 then turning right onto Feoffee Lane, heading through Yapham and Meltonby. Don't miss the right hand turn down a tiny lane to Great Givendale. Turn left, and begin the ascent to the top of the hill.

When you reach the top turn left on the A166 then almost immediately left again signposted to Bishop Wilton. There's a steep descent into the village. Turn left then shortly afterwards right onto Main Street. Follow the same road through its twists and turns to Bolton - just follow signs to Fangfoss.

When you reach Fangfoss, turn left and follow the familiar route to Wiberfoss. Cross the A1079 (right then immediately left), through Newton, before turning right into Sutton and cross the bridge to Elvington.

Do this route anti-clockwise to avoid turning right on A166. There is a small short-cut that misses a mile or so by following the A1079 to Barmby Moor instead of the back lanes. There are a several ways to skip the hill climb, by turning left when the going gets tough.
