The area around here was a hive of activity in the 1800s with the massive water pipeline constructed to reach the goldfields and vital rail transport links carved into rock and over mud and clay, with this hazardous terrain causing many accidents. The pipeline?s engineer, CY O?Conner commissioned a new rail route to be safer and more robust skirting the course taken by Jane Brook around Mahogany Creek and through an amazing tunnel carved into 340 metres of solid rock.
