Honeysuckle Creek is well known as the venue for the NASA tracking station that provided the first pictures of the Apollo Moonwalk to the world on 21 July, 1969. It had a key role in supporting Project Apollo and other NASA programs, as well as assisting the Deep Space Network with inter-planetary tracking commitments. The station closed in 1981. Unfortunately the original site has been levelled and the 26m antenna relocated to the nearby Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.
