An imposing building is located in the "Koningstraat". Above the door you can see the inscription "Royal Flemish Academy". This building was built in the 18th century, by David t Kint as an aristocratic house.
Many people still call it the house of Oombergen, refering to the aristocratic house which stood on this place before. At the end of the 19th century, the Royal Academy for Dutch language and literature has been located here. This was an essential initiative to keep the Flemish culture alive in the mainly French speaking bourgeoisie and intellectuals of Ghent. The house is so exceptional because the complete interior in Louis 15th style has remained.
The building is only opened to the public at special occasions.
