Presumably there was a 13th-century chapel on this site, but archival material on this subject is not available. The current church in Brabant Gothic was built between 1444 and 1508. Construction was not completed until 1526, but in 1578 and 1684 the church was damaged by fire, only to be repaired in 1686. In 1717 new vaults were installed. In the middle of the 18th century, a small school was built next to the church, which later served as a town hall, only to be demolished in 1910 and replaced by a neo-Gothic baptistery, designed by M. Christiaens. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, various restorations took place.
