The Church of Saint Nicholas in Lochristi is named after Saint Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of merchants, schoolchildren, travellers, sailors, marriageable daughters and prisoners. The celebration tower with short slate spire was built in the 15th century with Balegem and Ledian stone. Inside the church we find a number of interesting pieces of furniture and statues including the polychrome wooden statue of Mary that was transferred from the chapel of Lobos. This miraculous statue of Mary was unharmed during a bomb attack in the church during WWII, although the altarpiece was heavily damaged.
