The parish is already old. The right of patronage was donated to the Abbey of Averbode by Louis II van Loon in 1219 and it was until 1824 that a Norbertine became parish priest there. The parish of Neerglabbeek was subordinate to that of Opglabbeek.
The oldest part of the current church is the marlstone part. In particular, the square, four-section west tower is one of them. This tower is covered by a tent roof. The nave and choir are 16th-century and executed in Mosan Gothic. In 1928 the church was enlarged. A new choir, a new central nave and a new north aisle were built in neo-Gothic style. The old north aisle was demolished, the old nave and the old south aisle together form the new aisle, and the old choir is used as a side chapel. Because the new nave was longer than the old one, the west tower is now located on the south side of the nave. The 20th-century extension was made of rubble stone.
