Alden Biesen impresses. What you see is an immense fortified castle, the largest of its kind in Belgium, surrounded by a beautiful domain. The garden on the street side is as geometric as a French garden can be. In the back is an English garden, and there are orchards. The castle complex includes some corner towers, a farm, a hospital, an orangery and a guest house. Behind the entrance gate on the left is a café-restaurant hidden, with an accompanying, particularly pleasant outdoor terrace. It is wonderful to sit there, and the dishes are not too bad.
Dear compatriots, this is the cultural centre of the Flemish Community. In practice, it serves as a meeting and residence centre for colloquia and seminars. Themed exhibitions are regularly organised.
