Via Voetweg V49 you reach the village square with the Sint Laurentius church on the left. Turn right on the Dorpsplein and cross the Haachtstraat to the Lodewijk Van Velthemstraat.
Lodewij(c)k van Velthem (ca. 1260/1275 - after 1317) was a Brabant clergyman and writer. His date and place of birth, as well as his date of death and place of death, are unknown. The oldest (auto)biographical data tell us that Louis stayed in Paris in the winter of 1293-1294 in the retinue of Duke John I of Brabant.
He himself mentions that he stayed in Ghent in 1297. He made a career as a clergyman in Brabant. In 1304 he had a clergy in Zichem near Diest and in 1312 he was pastor for life in Veltem near Louvain. He took his surname from this place.
His oldest surviving literary work is the continuation of the Spiegel historiael (1284-1288) by Jacob van Maerlant. He provided a castle for this unfinished world history in the period 1315-1317 (at the time of the Great Famine).
In 1326 he completed the Merlin Continuation, the third, missing book and sequel to Jacob van Maerlant's Historie vanden Grale en Boek van Merlijne, which Van Maerlant had written in the 60s of the thirteenth century – possibly against his will and therefore unfinished – on behalf of Albrecht van Voorne († 1287), Viscount of Zeeland. Velthem's name can also be linked to the Lancelot compilation. However, there is (still) great uncertainty about his exact role in the creation of this book, the second part of which has been preserved as manuscript KB Den Haag 129 A 10. Source: Wikipedia
