Oldest surviving wooden stake mill in the region with converted tars on a high mill dam, west on the dries, adjacent to Aalter. Oldest information from the 16th century: mentioned in "Liste Curie Moulins Carte D nr. 1 pli 12" in 1563 (year also engraved in beam) and mention of a mill field and mill road in the "Leenboek van Biesem" in 1578. Millers known from 1665. One of the banmills of the Land of the Desert. The last lord of the Land of the Desert, Count de Merode, Prince of Rubempré, was the owner until the beginning of the 19th century. During the French Revolution, the mill was blown over in a storm and is said to have been rebuilt in 1804 with the reuse of the material. In operation until 1965 with H. Taets as the last miller. Purchased by the municipality in 1974 and appointed by architect Paul Goethals (Bruges) for restoration in 1975; assignment of the works to the firm Mariman (Zele), (1978-1983). 10-09-1983 restored mill turned in. Type of standard or post mill consisting of the standing work: four masonry dies, facing the four cardinal points, here converted with whitewashed walls and with closed trusses under tiled roof, creating a closed mill base with carpentry workshop. Preserved elm steak and mill house with two floors, with grain and stone attic under rather small roof in the shape of a chapel with typical curve. Hood and wind weigh with split oak shale shallet, front and side roads with vertical shaking. Steep staircase (28 steps) without balcony, door and lazily under hatch hood in top. Wheelwork with typical East Flemish windlass. Turning work with riveted rods from the company Verhaeghe (Ruddervoorde) and cast iron plug-in shaft head by J. Van Aerschot (Herentals). Interior with an oat crusher at the back of the flour attic (drive disappeared) and two milling courses with two French couples in the stone attic. Brick mill building with rectangular gate and lunettes in the right gable.
