Description

Despite the name of the village of Sint-Lievens-Esse and the local devotion to Saint Livinus, the 18th-century church was not dedicated to this saint, but to Saint Martin.
In the wider area of Sint-Lievens-Esse you will probably find a drinking establishment where the natural beers of the Herzeelse brewery De Ryck are served. Both Rochus and Special De Ryck are best to drink. It is worth mentioning that in that brewery the stirring stick is in the hands of a woman, namely An De Ryck, the great-granddaughter of the man who founded the brewery in 1886. Sint-Lievens-Esse is also proud of its beer; after all, this is where the well-known Pater Lievenbier from the Van den Bossche brewery originated.
