Saint Martin’s church dates back to the 12th century, but has of course been rebuilt and altered numerous times over the past nine hundred years. It features quite a lot of art treasures, but the pièce de résistance is definitely the Triptiek van de Heilige Geest (the Triptych of the Holy Spirit) by Bernard de Rijckere from 1587: a Whitsun scene featuring the baptism of Jesus and the creation of Adam. Also very impressive is the unique 1585 tabernacle with a height of 6.5 metres.
Valuable religious objects, including 16th-century chasubles and altar cloths, are on display in Saint Eligius’s Chapel, which has been turned into a treasure room.
The tower of Saint Martin's Church holds the first full 19th-century carillon in Kortrijk. It consists of 49 bells.
