The church of Sleidinge is dedicated to St. George, but since the transfer in 1659 of the relics of St. Godelieve from the Small Beguinage in Ghent, a flourishing devotion to the latter saint has arisen here, which overshadowed the devotion to the original patron. Lists of parish priests have been around since the 14th century, although with some gaps. A remarkable Foundation Book from 1418 has been preserved in the church archives.
