Boudeloo

Description

To make the strict regime in the Boudelo Abbey in Klein-Sinaai more bearable, the clergy were allowed to brew beer. Their brew was sacred, so when they fled to Ghent in the 16th century and to Groningen during the French Revolution, the recipe moved with them. It was not until 1932 that the long-lost archive was found in the attic of the Oranjeboom brewery in Rotterdam. The recipe mentioned the monastery garden herbs that gave the beer its recognizable taste and formed the basis for the much-loved Boudelo launch in 2002.
