Art Deco House Voorstraat 38, Kaprijke
The terraced house, built around 1934 to a design by the Ghent architect Emile De Nil, is the most beautiful and best-preserved example in Kaprijke of modernist and expressionist design in brick architecture from the interwar period. The asymmetrical and plastic façade structure with a higher ascending part enhances the dynamic and monumental character. The brickwork with horizontally continuous joints, the wide windows with stained glass windows as skylights, the façade surfaces in two shades of rough crepi and the flat roofs, form characteristic building elements. The round bay window over two storeys is the eye-catcher on the garden side.
