Description

The Vogelenzangstraat is located here just along the valley floor the Vogelzangbeek. The more fertile soils lie long these lower parts of the valley. On those valley soils you will find the fertile sandy loam soils on top of the tertiary clay. These sandy loam soils also retain the water fantastically well and are also permeable enough so that the soils do not get too wet. You will usually find intensive horticulture on those valley soils. And so close to Brussels, the demand for vegetables was almost insatiable and therefore a market that was not far away. Horticulturists did and do very well here.
