Description

Lately, lighthouses have become a much-loved subject for books and documentaries. This doesn't mean that all is well with lighthouses. All the lighthouses at the coast are either unmanned or no longer in use. Alas, those were the days, high and lonesome in the tower. The lighthouse of Heist (by the Koningslaan) is a beautiful example, dating from the beginning of the 20th century, in pure Jugendstil. This impressive beacon, 34 metres high, was the first concrete construction on the coast. The tower has recently been completely restored and rejuvenated.
