The church was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The foundation stone
was laid in 1907. The building was just completed when the First World War started in 1914.
The architect Van Gheluwe from Namur made the plans. After his death, the
architect De Noyette revised most of them.
The building meets the wishes of Leopold II : to make a good impression to the foreign visitors when they enter in Belgium and to be worthy for a county town.
