Les "Doyards" in Walloon means a number of areas, which under the old regime meant a kind of cijns for the parish. (Douaiere was a form of income) These lands in the depths of Vielsalm, where the river "le Glain" flows, were flooded in 1975 and now form the "Lac des Doyards", currently the largest lake in the province of Luxembourg. The spillway is a safety system, 10 meters wide, which allows a flow capacity of 108 cubic meters/sec. in case of a large water supply. Also a flow-through system, to ensure the normal flow downstream. The banks were reinforced with slate waste and downstream, in addition to the spillway, 12 000 cubic metres of non-stony soil were brought in. This wetland is very rich in terms of flora and fauna.
