In Okegem near Ninove the ideas of the Daensist movement arose. This is no coincidence, because since the 1880s there has been an organized current of Christian Flemish and anti-socialist middle-class and intellectuals. The members called themselves the Roelanders, after their weekly Klokke Roeland. Boon describes how Pieter Daens and the Roelanders first met in April 1893 in a 'cellar room' of a small inn at the Okegem station. It was at this meeting that the Christian People's Party was founded. Peter's brother, priest Adolf Daens, later became the figurehead of the movement.
