From here you can enjoy a great view: an unspoilt horizon, a wide and unspoiled landscape. In the open sand you will find a number of typical plants such as bunt grass and sand sedge. The large contiguous carpets of shaggy maidenhair wear bright reddish-brown spore capsules in winter. One mushroom that you will invariably find near birch trees is the fly agaric. It is one of the many species that live closely with trees. This means that they exchange nutrients with each other, and both tree and mushroom benefit from this. What the heathland looked like before and after the great heath fire of May 2011 can be seen in the photos of Sep 2010, June and Sep 2011. The photos show the moorland landscape in a southerly direction from this point.
