Since the industrial revolution, this bridge has connected two worlds, that of the Rue Antoine Dansaert and that of the Chaussée de Gand. Rue Dansaert is lined with elegant town houses and at the very end is the Bourse, where wealthy industrialists used to sell their shares. Along Chaussée de Gand, you will find Oud-Molenbeek which, due to its strong economic development, was nicknamed the Manchester of the continent. There are huge contrasts between the two districts but they are both equally welcoming.
