The Church of Our Lady of Zwijveke participates in the Open Churches Days 2013 on 1 and 2 June.
Guided tours will be given between 14:00 and 18:00.
The church is a modern church designed according to the guidelines of the church after the last council. It was built between 1969-1973 to a design by architect Rik Van de Sompel from Ghent.
Modernly conceived church building in accordance with the guidelines of the church after the last council. It is a functional construction with a rational choice of materials, namely a concrete substructure that is partly clad with brick and partly with painted wall plates supported by a steel skeleton. Inside the church, volumes and heights are played with to create different atmospheres. Floor and ceiling slopes enhance the visual effect of the directed incidence of light and accentuate the central altar positionThe stained-glass window at the entrance depicts the Our Lady and Child (1993) and a Stations of the Cross (1998) by artist Harold Van de Perre from Dendermonde.
