The Parrot Mushroom is a small to medium-sized mushroom with many variegated colors - hence the name. The slimy hat is 1 to 3.5 cm wide and usually greenish, often mixed with other colors. The stem also contains predominantly greenish colors. Due to its combination of variegated green tones and typical slipperiness, the Parrot Mushroom is easy to recognize.
The Parrot Fungus lives "saprotrophic": it gets its food from dead material. It grows in short grasslands and roadsides. That grassland may be old and unfertilized, as long as it is continuously used or managed. Grazing meadows or hay meadows are eligible, but also football fields such as here. Occasionally, the Parrot Mushroom also occurs in fertile and moist deciduous forests.
