Jemeppe castle is set in extensive estate grounds. The castle is medieval and the oldest part is the 14th century keep. With its square shape and height of 23 metres, the keep was where the Dochain family lived until 1616. Hence the castle had both a residential and defensive function. At that time, the region was the scene of fighting between the dynasties of Namur and Luxembourg. During the 17th century, the keep passed to the d'Ans family, who added three new wings to create the four-sided structure visible today. The castle at the time also had a farmhouse built in limestone, complete with stables, cowsheds, hayloft and sheepfold, as well as servant accommodation. All of the additions are in the classical style of the 17th century. The castle is surrounded by a moat fed by the Hendrée, a tributary of the Wamme.
The castle at Jemeppe was then occupied by the Grady family in the 18th century and the Sauvage-Vercours from 1838. Abandoned during the 20th century, the castle was purchased, restored and given a new lease of life as a high-end seminar centre.
