If you are looking for surprising fauna and flora, you've come to the right place in De Fonteintjes (The Fountains). This unique nature and walking area stretches from Blankenberge to Zeebrugge. The beautiful dune landscape boasts rich vegetation including various rare types of plants and numerous splendid orchids, and is the favourite breeding place of almost 120 species of birds. Informative signs in various languages guide the visitor through this charming nature reserve with the four 'fonteintjes' (fountains) or ponds.
De Fonteintjes can be discovered via a small dune path which mainly follows the route of the Graaf Jansdijk constructed during the 5th century. You will have a sublime view of the marvellous nature world in this area. Two of the four ponds date back to 1860. They are the result of excavations for strengthening the railway dyke to Knokke. Fishermen can fish to their hearts content in these ponds.
