Geitenpark is situated along the ‘Grote Bassin’, a water reservoir built in 1863-1865. The 'Grote Bassin' is the largest green zone in the centre of Roeselare. Apparently, the goats were aware of this much earlier, hence the name! The park is where the ‘Sint Sebastiaan’ archers' guild is based, hence the names 'Sint Sebastiaanspark' (Saint Sebastian park) and 'Gaaipersstraat' (popinjay street) which is situated nearby.
