The black alder:
Latin Name: alnus glutinosa
Characteristics: Grows from 10 to 25 m high.
Habitat: It lives on forest edges with water.
Leaf: Fairly round blade with blunt tip and a double-serrated leaf edge.
Flower: The male catkins are yellow at first, then dark. The female catkins are brown at first, then red.
Fruit: First green and then black alder plug containing small seeds.
Fun fact: The male catkins are elongated and drooping, the female catkins are egg-shaped and standing.
