In the standard orchards around the Vinne and Klein Vinne there are acorn mice. These are fat dormice the size of a small guinea pig with a beautiful black mask over the eyes. They love nuts and fruits. In the region, they are also called fruit rats. They used to be very common, but because there are hardly any standard orchards, forests (hazelnuts) and forest edges (blackberries and berries), this species has disappeared rapidly. If you pay close attention in autumn, you will see the typical feeding tracks of the acorn mouse on apples, even if they are still hanging on the tree. It makes its burrow in a tree cavity and sleeps there for five to six months in the winter. Because there are not many hollow trees, special nesting boxes are hung for this species. In the orchards of 'het Vinne' there are a few of them.
