This local stone top crawler was built in 1834 to replace a stake mill that already existed in 1588 and was already called "Ter Gheynst". In 1834 it was destroyed by lightning. The tars of this former mill are still under the floor.
The building blocks were baked on site. In the beginning, the mill was both an oil and grain mill. In 1872 the oil butchery was removed. It was milled until 1949. During a severe storm on November 12, 1972, the new flight installed in 1969 started to turn. It slammed into the tub, ripped off the hood and flew 75 yards away into a meadow. The ash head was broken. A new restoration followed in 1976. The mill now belongs to Peter Thomaes, manager of a millwright's company in Beveren-Roeselare. In 2005, that company carried out some major maintenance work, including ironing the rods to be reinstalled after repainting and lifting. The hull and hood were also given a turn. In 2007, the mill received new welded, busted rods with brake valves (fabr. Thomaes).
