Miner's path mowing management

The Miners' Path is owned by the municipalities in which it is located. The municipalities of Zottegem and Brakel have left the management of the roadsides to Natuurpunt, department zwalm.vallei. At different times of the year, various parts of the roadsides are mowed to obtain species-rich verges. It is important to always dispose of the clippings. In this way, the soil becomes a bit leaner, so that species such as nettle are reduced, but other valuable plants are given growth opportunities again. A look over the bridge railing is definitely worth it. In spring you can see the Purple Scale Root here on the steep banks under the poplars. In summer, the banks are dominated by the rampant Giant Balsam, with its abundant number of white and purple flowers, a paradise for insects. The Great Yellow Wagtail skims over the water here almost all year round and the Kingfisher can also be observed here, with some luck. From May you can hear the Oriole high in the trees here, but few are lucky enough to see it.
