The concession of a porch in Theux, a symbol of communal liberties, dates back to the year 1456. It was made, not with the consent of the Three Estates (Clergy, Nobility and the Thiers State (i.e. People)) but only by the Burgomasters of Liége, then capital of the Principality of Liège.
Theux saw his porch destroyed in 1468, during the invasion of the Pays de Franchimont by the soldiers of Le Téméraire, who had come, at the head of an army, to punish the people of Franchimont for their attempt on his life, at Mont Sainte-Walburge in Liège on 29 October 1468.
Later it was replaced by another which was knocked down and shattered by a hurricane... His pieces can be found in the Cour du Palais in Liége. The porch we see now dates from the year 1768 and was erected during the reign of the Prince-Bishop of Liège, Charles-Nicolas d'Oultremont, whose coat of arms is noteworthy hammered by the revolutionaries of the late eighteenth century.
