The location of the castle is remarkable to say the least. The castle is perfectly the center of an imaginary circle that goes straight through the churches of Weerde, Elewijt and Houtem, the church of Eppegem is just not on it but the circle goes exactly through a nearby chapel. The bird's-eye distance between the churches of Perk and Houtem is also exactly equal to the diameter of this circle. If one draws an isosceles triangle from the churches of Elewijt and Houtem, the castle is also perfectly located on the middle lead line of it. And there are a lot of other curious things to note about the location of Het Steen. Rubens was known as a painter, but he was also skilled in architecture and had a great love for geometry and symmetry. It is not known whether Rubens knew about this pattern of lines.
