De Klijtte was used as brigade headquarters. The first interments took place on 1 November 1914 and were carried out by the infantry, the artillery and the engineers. After the war, the cemetery was expanded to include isolated graves and smaller cemeteries from the area.
There are now 1082 Commonwealth dead commemorated. Among them, 238 are unidentified. One of the graves from Leicester Camp Cemetery bears the names of two men whose separate identification was no longer possible. Other 'special memorials' commemorate victims "Known to be buried in this cemetery".
