Ursuline Monastery

The Ursuline Monastery is a former convent and educational complex of the Ursuline Sisters. It is located on the Kloosterstraat in Hamont in the Belgian province of Limburg. The sisters attended from 1839-2012.
The monastery, also known as Stalleken of Bethlehem, was founded from the Ursuline Monastery in Tildonk. In 1838 the foundation stone was laid and in 1839 the sisters moved in. A boarding school was set up, and in 1843 a primary girls' school opened, partly also externally. In 1849 the final chapel was consecrated. After this, several school buildings, a bakery and a wash house were built, while a kindergarten was opened in 1861. In 1860 there was a Sunday school for older girls and adults. In 1883 a Lourdes grotto was built and in 1900 a Calvary. Due to strong expansion, the old complex was demolished around 1900 and replaced by a new monastery. In 1911 a household school opened, in 1913 the foundation stone for a new chapel was laid to a design by Pierre Cuypers, which was consecrated in 1919.
