This life-size polyester statue of the Letterhoutem champetter Raymond Van Den Berghe (1902-1986) was placed in 1978 on the occasion of the 'Year of the Village'. It represents the champetter in its former capacity, when the public announcements had to be called on the 'calling stone'. It is a so-called 'belleman'. In small villages, the ranger used a handbell after high mass with which he wanted to draw the attention of the public to the news he so proclaimed.
