The border between Belgium and the Netherlands runs right through the Heideland. Along the Scheidreef there are several boundary markers that make this border visible. The Scheidreef also runs more or less along the edge of the Brabantse Wal. This is a striking transition from the higher sandy soils of the Kempen Plateau to the lower Scheldt polders. The Wal or hem was created by erosion of the Scheldt. On average, the Brabantse Wal is about 20m higher than the polder landscape. There are several drifting sand areas on the Wal. From the Scheidreef there are good views of the rising wall in some places through the forest.
