Hessepoelbos

The province of Antwerp has constructed the Hessepoelbeek in a meandering manner, with gentle banks and varying widths, in order to achieve additional water buffering and ecological added value. After the relocation of the Hessepoelbeek, the play forest was also given a makeover. The excavated soil was used to create play hills for the youth movement that has its home base there. The redevelopment of the Hessepoelbeek clearly creates opportunities for people and nature. Thanks to the meandering watercourse, flooding is prevented and at the same time the value of the Hessepoelbos as a green lung for Waarloos is further strengthened.

Further along the Hessepoelbeek, in 2014 the province of Antwerp redesigned another section on land owned by Natuurpunt with a sand trap, meandering with sloping banks and a pool. This project was given the tough name 'Cobra'. Do you want to know why? Then take a quick look at our website!
