Sint-Antoniusstraat z.nr. St. Anthony's Chapel, built in the last quarter of the 19th century, replacing an older chapel dating back at least to the beginning of the 18th century. The former chapel was located on grounds of the lordship "Baptisms" and is first mentioned in 1702 as "Sint-Antuenus capelleke". In 1887, the chapel across the street was rebuilt by Adolphe Debien, the parish priest of Deerlijk (and before that of Saint Catherine), who owned the surrounding grounds. Dedicated to St. Anthony Abbot who, among other things, is invoked against cattle diseases. However, it is best known as a place of pilgrimage for unmarried women looking for a life partner. At the beginning of the 20th century, Honoré Lagae from Sint-Eloois-Winkel composed "De Beêweg naar Sint-Antonius", a song that – as evidenced by the various versions that have been preserved of the song – had a wide distribution. Chapel located at the end of the Sint-Antoniusstraat, where the road is in a corner of gr.m. Turns 90° to the south. Narrow high chapel in dark red brick construction with thickened base, under slate gable roof between roofs. Access under Tudor arch in which neo-Gothic wooden gull-wing door, upper lancet window (poem). Side facades characterized by two lancet windows with iron rod division, under a delineating mouse tooth frieze. Use of natural stone for steps (renewed), sats, deck plates, corbels, top piece and scaffolding. Iron anchors and top cross (gone). Surrounding pavement in concrete tiles. Interior. Light yellow painted brick walls under planked pointed barrel vault, new cement tile floor. Iron altar fence with spearhead and floral motif behind which wooden altar with statue and relic of Saint Anthony. Crucifix against the altar wall and flanking statues of Christ, Heart, and Mary with rosary on wooden consoles. KADASTERARCHIEF WEST-VLAANDEREN, 207: Mutation sketches, Lendelede, 1890/58.
