This farm is already mentioned in 1635 as lying under the seigneury of the Hazelt. This was a large seigneury whose lands were spread over Roeselare and all the suburbs. In 1628 it came into the possession of the lords of Rumbeke, the count's family of the Thiennes. The high court of East Iyper-Ambacht was also entrusted to this seigneury. The vierschaar met in the city centre of Roeselare at the place de Hazelt, hence the street name "De Hazeltstraat". The farm 't Voordeel owes its name to the fertile soils along the Duivelsbeek and the Mandel, from which the farmer benefited greatly.
